I joined the Peanuts Movie production early and was given the task of bringing Snoopy into three dimensions. My initial pass was a lineup of seven different digital sculpts to show that Charles Schulz's drawings could be matched in 3D, but that each pose would require reshaping depending on the angle the character appeared to the camera. If you moved the camera away from that customized model, it would look like a "Picasso." And so the style was was able to stay faithful to the source material while being brought into 3D, but only when viewed from a specific camera. Later I would move up to Character Modeling Lead to see the show through to completion, which became a great opportunity to work closely with the Rigging, Fur, and Animation departments, making sure they had what was needed, technically and artistically, to bring these characters to life, faithfully.
